Who We Are

In 2016, Atlanta became a member of 100 Resilient Cities

... pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, focused on building resilience strategies to combat the physical, social, and economic challenges cities face. The then City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Sustainability was reorganized under the newly created Chief Resilience Officer as the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Resilience and tasked to help develop a citywide resilience strategy for Atlanta. While Resilience includes Sustainability, Urban Resilience extends to helping create the beloved community we want to live  – not just meeting our basic needs but helping us meet our full human potential.

In late May of 2017, the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Resilience launched a collaborative civic engagement process which included more than 7,000 representatives from residents/neighborhood groups, academia, faith-based, nonprofits, government, and the local business community in order to help draft what Atlanta’s resilience means for all of us.
